Advanced FES Powered Systems course

This three day advanced FES Powered Systems course is designed to give PT’s, OT’s and EP’s knowledge and practical experience that will enable them to deliver best practice FES therapy.

Course prerequisites
Understanding of:
  • Anatomy and physiology of the neurological and musculoskeletalsystems
  • General knowledge of electrical stimulation application
  • Prior experience with FES systems: RT200, RT300 or RT600

Course objectives
  • Understand the research and clinical rationale
  • Deliver appropriate and safe evaluation of FES therapy
  • Know how to optimize the therapy set up
  • Understand and interpret the objective outcomes from FES ergometry
  • Set realistic goals and therapy progression
  • Understand and manage the nutritional factors that impact outcomes
  • Learn methods to effectively motivate your clients
  • Understand coding and reimbursement for FES ergometry

Course content
  • Prior home study: review anatomy and physiology related to SCI; epidemiology, etiology and pathophysiology of SCI
  • Lecture series
  • Opportunity to work with RT200, RT300 and RT600 systems
  • Multidisciplinary team learning opportunities, round table discussion
  • Preliminary practice workshop
  • Workshops where you design, deliver and review an FES therapy based physical activity program with SCI clients
  • Pre and post course testing
  • CEU credits
